How to care for and extend the life of your candles

The definitive guide to making your Vesentia candles last longer, burn better, and smell incredible.
A well-cared-for candle doesn't just last longer: it illuminates better, releases fragrance evenly, and retains all its beauty until the very last use. And although at Vesentia we select high-quality materials, there are small gestures that can make a huge difference in your experience.
Here is a simple, practical, and sensory guide for you to enjoy your candles to the fullest… accompanied by three essential tools: the wick trimmer, the candle snuffer, and the wick dipper.
🧡 1. Let the entire surface melt on the first use
The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the top layer melts completely, reaching the edges of the container.
Why?
Because it prevents "tunneling," ensures the candle burns evenly, and significantly extends its lifespan.
It's like teaching your candle to burn properly from the start.
✂️ 2. Keep the wick at the right height
(And this is where the wick trimmer comes into play)
Before each lighting, trim the wick to about 4–5 mm.
This prevents:
- very high flames,
- unnecessary smoke,
- excessive wax consumption,
- and black residue in the container.
The wick trimmer is designed just for that: it reaches any depth in the jar and makes a clean cut without getting your fingers dirty.
It's a small gesture that completely changes the way your candle burns.
🔥 3. Extinguish the candle correctly
(The star here: the candle snuffer)
Blowing out the candle seems like the most natural thing to do, but it’s not ideal: it generates smoke, a burnt smell, and can move the wick out of place.
The candle snuffer avoids all of that.
With it you can:
- extinguish the flame without smoke,
- preserve the purity of the aroma,
- prevent the wick from leaning,
- and extend the useful life of your candle.
It is elegant, practical, and very gentle on the fragrance.
⚙️ 4. Straighten the wick with the right tool
(Enter the wick dipper)
Sometimes, after extinguishing the candle, the wick ends up crooked or off-center. This can affect how the wax melts in future uses.
The wick dipper helps you to:
- straighten the wick while it is still soft,
- slightly submerge it in the wax to protect it,
- reposition it in the center for the next time you light it.
This trick is one of those that makes the difference between a candle that lasts… and one that lasts a very long time.
🕯️ 5. Don't leave it burning for too many hours
Ideally, keep a candle burning for a maximum of 2 to 4 hours per session.
This prevents:
- the wick from deforming,
- the wax from getting too hot,
- the fragrance from degrading.
Pause, let it rest… and then light it again whenever you want.
🌿 6. Keep the surface clean
Sometimes match remnants, dust, or small bits of burnt wick remain.
Always remove them before lighting the candle. This keeps the combustion clean and safe.
💛 7. Enjoy the ritual
Caring for a candle isn't an obligation: it's part of the ritual.
It’s about lighting a flame with intention, creating an atmosphere that accompanies you, and adding value to that moment you are preparing for yourself or your home.
At Vesentia, we design our candles to live with you.
And with these small habits—and your three ally tools—they will last longer, burn better, and fragrance your spaces like never before.
